Barking dog diaries in Australia: council requirements
Start with your council’s instructions. A useful diary records what you observed, when you observed it and how it affected you.
Find the right dates and form
There is no single diary period to assume for every council. Ask which form to use, when your diary should start, how long to keep it and whether you need to keep recording after submitting it. Follow any instructions given for your own case.

These examples describe particular councils’ published processes, not a national rule. Open the official page and confirm the current instructions before starting. Melbourne includes multiple councils with different processes.
Record your observations separately
Write down observed start and finish times, breaks in the barking, a possible source if you know it, and the effect on sleep, work or everyday life. Leave unknown details unknown. If you observed a quiet period, record that explicitly; an empty automatic log is not the same observation.
Use automatic detection as something to review
A detection records a possible dog sound. It does not establish which dog made it, count every individual bark or measure a continuous disturbance. Check the event, listen to its clip if available and add your own context. Keep the times when the device actually listened alongside the events.
Prepare the requested submission
